Festus Owiti, Mission Veteran.
In a quiet corner of Nakuru, nestled within the warmth of his home, we had the distinct privilege of visiting Festus Owiti, a remarkable 90-year-old congregant from ACK Cathedral Nakuru. Our courtesy call, following a recently concluded mission, turned into a wonderful encounter with a living testament to enduring faith and unwavering dedication.
Owiti’s connection to African Evangelistic Enterprise (AEE) dates back to 2002, when he joined the organization at the age of 68. Despite the passage of time, his memory remains astonishingly sharp. He recounted numerous missions he attended, effortlessly recalling the names of fellow staff members and missioners he served alongside.
One particular incident stood out, a vivid memory of a mission shared with Evangelist Njuguna. They were hosted by a man whose early morning disappearances puzzled them. Each day, their host would leave before dawn without explanation. Curiosity finally prompted them to ask, and the man’s answer was heartbreaking: “My wife is in a coma; she got unwell immediately after giving birth.”
Shocked by the revelation, Owiti and Njuguna immediately offered their prayers. “We are here to pray for the sick,” they told him, accompanying him to the hospital. As they prayed fervently for his wife, Mrs. Koech, a miracle unfolded. She stirred, recounting an encounter with an angel, and began to recover.
As our visit drew to a close, Owiti offered a touching piece of advice, a guiding principle that has clearly shaped his own life: “Stay on this path,” he urged us, his voice filled with conviction. “There is nothing special like leading someone to Christ. Make sure that you help someone to come to Jesus.”
His words serve as a powerful reminder of the profound impact one life dedicated to faith can have, and the enduring legacy of leading others to hope.
