Committed to Improving Healthcare in Soweto, Kayole.

Sylvester Ndege, a Laboratory Officer at Soweto Kayole Primary Health Center, is currently on placement from USAID. With over eight years of experience at Mathare North Health Center and Dandora 2 Health Center, he has now served for a year at Soweto Kayole. Driven by a passion for community well-being and a deep desire to give back to society, Sylvester remains committed to providing quality healthcare to those who need it the most.

At the clinic, Sylvester oversees diagnostic tests for conditions such as H. pylori, malaria, UTIs, typhoid, HIV, TB, viral load, and HPV screening. While he appreciates the services already in place, being a level 3B clinic, he sees untapped potential for growth. “This clinic has the capacity to expand and provide even better healthcare services to the community” he says.

According to Sylvester, many common illnesses in Soweto Kayole including H. pylori, typhoid and diabetes are closely linked to lifestyle choices. “Addressing these issues at the root cause should significantly reduces cases” he explains. He recalls a memorable case of a young man who arrived with severe typhoid and fully recovered after treatment. “Seeing patients regain their health is the most rewarding part of my work” he shares.

Sylvester’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of Soweto Kayole residents is a testament to the transformative impact of dedicated healthcare professionals. With continued support and investment, Soweto Kayole Health Center has the potential to expand its impact offering hope and healing to even more community members.
