STREET FAMILIES MINISTRY.
“Confirm” member gets to meet Jesus and gets instant transformation.
When we visited Rev. Patrick Mwangi of Happy Church during the preparation phase of the Nakuru city wide mission. We witnessed his compassion to street people living in the streets.
We arrived at his office at around 1pm and we noticed a commotion in the sanctuary, with people coming in carrying sacks and some appearing to be sniffing something. They seemed disciplined and well-coordinated. Pastor Mwangi informed us that these individuals are street families from the city of Nakuru.
“They come here for the lunch hour service. We feed them every Wednesday and share the love of God with them. God loves them too,” he said. “We also welcome them to morning devotions, where we provide a cup of tea and a small snack afterwards, creating opportunities for ongoing discipleship”, he added.
He also explained that security is tightened when they arrive because some of them carry knives and need to be searched. “The beautiful thing is that we have seen many of them receive the Lord as their Savior. They don’t like attending regular church services because they don’t feel comfortable, so we have created a special service just for them. Here, they lead everything—they have a worship team, they preach, and they also give offerings,” he added.
Reverend Patrick, helped us reach these strata of society during the proclamation week. He led us to Shabab, an area in Nakuru long known for its gang activity. We met a group of 10 young men identified by the community as “the Confirm.” These individuals are known to be engaged in theft and robbery against pedestrians, as we continued speaking to them about the love of God, one of the missioners noticed her bottle was missing, someone among the “Confirm” team had taken it. The missioners continued with sharing the gospel and at the end five of them accepted Jesus Christ and one of these young men said “I know who took the missioner’s bottle”. Immediately, he dashed there and brought us the bottle. This was an instant transformation that we bless the Lord for.
Rev. Patrick expressed his gratitude for the AEE-Kenya team’s efforts in evangelizing the city of Nakuru and specifically joining in to reach the street families. “I have seen a noticeable decrease in crime due to the ministry’s outreach to street families”. he testified.
During this outreach we were able to reach a total of 450 members of street families and through African Evangelistic Enterprise Kenya, Social Action Department we were able to provide them with de-wormers and clothing. We look forward to continuing this partnership and invite anyone who would like to join us in making a lasting impact on these street families. Please note that the ministry is ongoing; they meet every Wednesday for spiritual nourishment and are provided with food as well.
