How Foxfire Shaped Precious Owoko’s Life.

Precious Owoko joined the Foxfire Youth Empowerment program in 2018 from Eldoret. She completed the program and quickly enrolled at Laikipia University, where she graduated with a degree in communications and media. She is now a television and radio presenter at MBCI TV, a Christian media outlet.

Reflecting on the program’s impact, she said, “After high school, I worked casual jobs to help my parents financially. A friend from my hometown told me about the foxfire program, and despite our financial difficulties, I applied. By God’s grace, I passed the interview and was among the selected group. We were a diverse group from different parts of the country and socio-economic backgrounds, which made me feel at ease. As a pastor’s child, it was also an opportunity for me to explore my faith outside of my parents’ influence. The program leaders understood my financial situation and were quite supportive. I excelled in creative activities and found my confidence during school ministry visits through dancing, skits, and speaking to students. I gained valuable skills such as creative thinking, which has significantly impacted my work”.

During the program, she discovered her passion for writing and spoken word, which led her to establish ‘Walking Shadow Poetry Kenya,’ reaching over one hundred thousand people across social media platforms worldwide”.

Precious Owoko has released two songs on YouTube and aims to inspire young people to overcome obstacles in life. She added that the program helped her to find confidence, purpose, and a deeper connection with God. It taught her that it is possible to serve God in unconventional ways, whether through traditional preaching or spoken word performances.
